Culture & Climate Committee
Dear Jefferson Parents,

In the 2016-2017 school year, for example, many parents requested
Every spring, we send out survey's to our parents/guardians asking for feedback about our school. At the end of the school year we gather and analyze that data to form goals for the following school year. If you did not receive this survey via email, please contact Mrs. Cicchino at [email protected] to gain access!
Thank you for helping our school to grow and improve every year!

SECD in 2017-2018 School Year:
At Jefferson Elementary School, we are committed to the education of the whole child. We understand that without social emotional skills, even the brightest children will not thrive. With this knowledge we have begun a more data-driven and purposeful approach to social emotional and character development (SECD). In addition to our comprehensive curriculum in the classroom, all students in grades 1-4 participate in classroom counseling lessons at least one time per month. Kindergarten students participate in these classes every week. We utilize teacher/staff surveys to gauge our greatest needs in each grade level as well as yearly parent/guardian survey's to better understand how we can better support our students and families in these areas as well. Students are surveyed every three years in order to assess their understanding of the key SEL competencies.
Many clubs and activities are offered to encourage service learning opportunities and our PTA at Jefferson School is amazing in hosting wonderful events for the whole family! Every month our school hosts many different charities or volunteer opportunities for students to take ownership in their local and sometimes global community in a positive manner. Students at Jefferson School learn very early that a small act of kindness can make a huge impact!
Every month our Principal, Ms. Cosgrove visits each classroom to read the character "book of the month" and discuss our core values. Students are given the opportunity to participate in a monthly writing contest focusing on the value discussed in each book. The winners are announced and celebrated during their grade level lunch period and are then invited to have lunch with Mrs. Cichino and Ms. Cosgrove.
Throughout the school year we provide contests, challenges or assemblies to provide fun ways to bring our Jefferson community closer and to encourage students to have an active part in making their school a better place. Please see some of the events we are doing school-wide below, and feel free to contact me with any ideas you might have or if you would like to be involved!
